The Cluster of Excellence POLiS develops new battery materials and technology concepts for efficient and sustainable storage of electrical energy. These so-called post-lithium batteries have the potential to store more energy, be safer, and offer a more cost-effective, long-term option for mass applications such as stationary and mobile electrochemical storage.

It is the decided goal of the Graphene Flagship to bring graphene from lab to fab – in only 10 years. Yet, insufficient standardisation makes companies hesitate. NanoMat experts appointed to ISO and IEC advocate graphene standardisation and thereby promote its industrialisation.

NanoMat is partner of the ENSEMBLE3 project (Centre of ExcelleNce for nanophotonicS, advancEd Materials and novel crystal growth-Based technoLogiEs). The aim of the ENSEMBLE3 project is to create a new "Center for Excellence" in the field of crystal growth technologies, including the production of functional materials.

Members of the NanoMat are appointed experts in international committees, in particular the "Nanotechnologies" committees ISO/TC229 and IEC/TC113, and ‘Printed Electronic’ IEC/TC119. As project partner of the Graphene Flagship, we founded the Graphene Flagship Standardisation Committee and lead the efforts regarding graphene and graphenic materials.

The new Graduate School "Modelling, Design, Implementation and Automation of Printed Electronics and Materials" (MERAGEM) will start in 2016 as a collaboration between the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Fachhochschule Offenburg. Focus of the Graduate School will be the use of printed technology for ICT applications.

The Vanguard Initiative is pioneering a new approach to support EU industry internationalisation and competitiveness by bringing regions (and clusters) together. Within the framework of the Vanguard Initiative, NanoMat is currently "mapping" nanotechnology activities in the state of Baden-Württemberg.
